At 1,780 feet, it is

| Fort Burt
Historic Ruins |
In Road Town.
Constructed by the Dutch and later rebuilt by the English, who annexed the
islands in 1672. Only the foundation and the megazine remain. |

Recovery Ruins |
In West End. Built by
the Dutch in 1660. It is a turreted gun emplacement with three toot thick
walls, the oldest intact structure in the BVI. |

William Thornton Estate Ruin |
In Pleasant Valley, was
once the home of the designer of the U.S. Capital Building. |
| The
Dungeon |
Located half way
between Road Town and West End. Built in 1794 by the Royal Engineers.
It has an underground cell. |
| The Church
at Kingstown |
East of Road Town. All
that remains of a community of freed slaves established in 1833. |
| Josiah's
Bay Plantation |
East End. Former rum
distillery is now an art gallery. |
| Mount
Healthy National Park |
Above Brewer's Bay. The
intact remains of an 18th century sugar plantation with thickly walled
stone windmill. |
| The
Callwood Rum Distillery |
Cane Garden Bay. This
distillery stills produces rum in much the same fashion that it did over
two centuries ago. Housed in a stone plantation era building. |
| Soper's
Hole |
West End. It is a major
anchorage. The main ferry terminal is here, as are several restaurants,
bars and the Caribbean-style Soper's Hole Marina and shopping wharf. |
| Little
Fort National Park |
Virgin Gorda at the
south of the Yacht Harbour. It was the site of a Spanish fort. Some walls
remain. The 36-acre area is also a wildlife sanctuary. |
| Nail Bay |
Virgin Gorda. Contains
the ruins of a 19th century sugar plantation. |
| The
Coppermine |
Virgin Gorda. Mined by
Cornish miners between 1838 and 1867, perhaps earlier by the Spanish.
Today, the remains of the chimney, boiler house, cistern and mine shafts
can be seen. |
| Gorda Peak
National Park |
Virgin Gorda. At 1500
feet, it is the island's highest point. It contains a wide variety of
indigenous and exotic plants and has been reforested with mahogany
trees. |
| The RMS
Rhone |
Diving site. Was a 310'
Royal Mail Ship that was dashed against the rocks off Salt Island's
southwest coast during a hurricane in 1867. Now a National Park, its
remains are extensive and have become a fascinating underwater habitat for
marine life. |
| Great
Harbour |
Jost Van Dyke. A
village of picturesque wooden houses on a sandy beach. |
| Norman
Island |
Known as the setting for
Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. The caves at the Bight are a
popular snorkeling spot. |
| Salt
Island |
Sparsely inhabited, has
three salt ponds, once a source of the seasoning for islanders and passing
ships. Residents still harvest the salt for sale. |
